چکیده

Open charm production during the equilibration of a gluon dominated parton plasma is calculated, with both the time-dependent temperature and parton densities given by a set of rate equations. Including pre-thermal production, the total enhancement of open charm production over the initial gluon fusion depends sensitively on the initial parton density and the effective temperature. The dependence of the pre-thermal charm production on the space-momentum correlation in the initial parton phase-space distribution is also discussed. 25.75.+r, 12.38.Mh, 13.87.Ce, 24.85.+p Typeset using REVTEX 1

We report on a new equilibration scenario in relativistic heavy ion collisions, the scenario of the Increasingly Strongly Interacting Parton Plasma, and the effects of this scenario on equilibration and open charm, photon and dilepton production. The parton plasma is shown to be a very special kind of many-body system, which contains new physics concerning the approach towards equilibrium. This...

On Open Charm Production in Heavy Ion Collisions

We update the calculation of c − c production in the initial stage of nucleus nucleus collisions and within quark gluon plasma, using the most recent and most accepted values for the ingredients, such as nuclear parton distributions, quark masses, couplings and fireball parameters. We find a large discrepancy in the charm yields, depending on the input choices. A global analysis of all the diff...

Detection of D mesons via hadronic decays in Pb–Pb collisions at LHC with ALICE

The ALICE experiment is devoted to the study of heavy-ion collisions at the CERN LHC collider. We present the results of a feasibility study for the detection of D → Kπ decays in Pb–Pb collisions with ALICE. 1 Physics motivation The aim of the ALICE [1] experiment is to study the behaviour of nuclear matter in the conditions of high densities and temperatures in which a transition to a deconfin...

J/Ψ suppressions in Relativistic Heavy-ion collisions

We study J/ψ survival probability, using short-distance QCD, in an equilibrating parton gas. The evolution of the system is determined within the Parton Cascade Model. Due to the formation of a large number of partons within this model, a large fraction of J/ψ are found to be suppressed. In a thermal equilibrating plasma this suppression is found to be almost 95 percent, while it is around 90 p...

Thermal charm production by massive gluons and quarks

We investigate charm production in an equilibrated quark-gluon plasma produced in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC. Effective quark and gluon masses are introduced from thermal QCD calculations. Assuming a Bjorken-type longitudinal expansion and including the influence of temperature dependent masses on the expansion, we determine the total number of cc pairs produced in the quarkgluon plas...
